Ritualising Your Beauty Routine.
We can all admit to a little beauty experimentation, trying the latest fad in the hope of a quick fix to a long standing skin problem. At LoveSkin we're big believers in the concept that in the soil of a quick fix is the seed of another problem, especially when it comes to skincare.
Popularised in the beauty industry in 2017 by beauty writer Shel Pink, the Slow Beauty movement has evolved as part of an international trend towards slow approaches to modern practices. The Slow Movement is a term used to describe a wide range of efforts taking place around the world that seek to connect us more meaningfully with others, with place and with ourselves. 5 years after it was first ideated, it's showing no signs of slowing down.
We live in a fast-paced world, from beauty to food to popping pills to achieve happiness. If nothing else recent lockdowns and uncertainly around the pandemic have forced us to take a breath and reflect.
The Slow Beauty movement is about introducing beauty rituals that nourish the skin, the soul and the self. It's about taking the time to slow down and reflect. It's about turning beauty from a superficial quest for perfection, into a personal journey, to find self acceptance and self love, prioritising nurturing of the spirit as well as the skin.
So what is a Beauty Ritual and how can you include Slow Beauty in your daily routine?
Start every ritual by taking a deep breath to bring fresh energy into your practice. Next, set an intention for this sacred time for self nurture. Breathe out stagnant energy and any feelings of frustration or negativity you may be holding.
Ritualise the washing of your face by noticing the water as it warms the face cloth, appreciating it's abundance and availability. Connect with yourself by holding your own gaze in the mirror and taking a moment to send back love and affection.
If you're feeling stressed about a situation, all that is required is a gentle touch on the points of the eyebrow, above the nasal bone. Hold very lightly for a few minutes while you reflect on the situation. These neurovascular holding points allow the release of emotion from both body and being. Gently hold your fingertips there using a very light pressure. Get in touch with how you feel now and notice any changes. Breathe and release any negative energy with a gentle exhale.
Take the time to mindfully and intentionally massage your moisturising oil onto your face, being grateful for the nourishment it gives your skin whilst enjoying the relaxing scent of your favourite LoveSkin blend.
Slow Beauty Rituals can be as simple as bringing mindfulness to your regular routine - taking the time to connect with the process, instead of allowing your distracted mind to wander. Regular use of Slow Beauty practices will change the way you view your beauty and more importantly it will help you develop a deeper connection with yourself.
